About Me

Hola, I am Iris King, a Licensed Clinical Social worker (LCSW # 87811) offering telehealth services in Southern California.
I am a bilingual first-generation daughter of Mexican parents. I grew up in a loving non-traditional home. I am the first one in my family to graduate from college. I earned a bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitation Services and a Masters in Social Work from California State University, Los Angeles, with a specialization in Forensic Social Work.
Throughout my career journey, I have had the opportunity to work with children and adults in various settings such as community mental health clinics, hospices, juvenile halls, and victims of crime. I have spent the last nine years working with children and families through school, at one of the largest school districts in the nation. My experience also includes providing clinical supervision and mental health consultation to social workers who are new in the field of social work.
Iris Therapy and Counseling was inspired by my own personal healing journey. As a first-generation, Latina woman, I have been working to break generational cycles long before I was aware. My healing journey lead me to seek guidance from my own therapist and other healers at different stages of my life. During this time, I learned many lessons and grief is an uninvited life companion that will resurface at various stages of our life. After I had my first child, I experienced a series of new emotional issues due to a past trauma that my memory brought back to light. I leaned into the discomfort and with the guidance of other helping professionals, I learned to tap into my strengths. At various times in my life, I understood that this process could feel like you are "healing against the current." Life around you does not stop and navigating your own needs while still being present for your responsibilities can be difficult.
As a passionate and Licensed Clinical Social Worker, my experience allows me to share tools and guidance using a holistic approach to address each client’s needs in an effective manner. I believe you are the expert in your life therefore; I use collaboration as the basis of my therapy—ensuring a comfortable, safe environment where we can work together on your goals.
